Google Benchmarking (menu item)

Google has started to roll a new feature to Google Analytics called Benchmarking, currently in beta. According to the Analytics blog, this highly requested feature was released a couple of days ago.

The main feature discussed around Benchmarking (FAQ) is the ability for anyone who runs a website to be compare their website’s performance to sites in their specific industry (or any available industry) and will allow users of this feature to understand how their website’s traffic compares to similar websites.

If you are experiencing traffic fluctuations you can compare it to the traffic your industry is currently receiving, thus providing an additional tool to optimize promotion and advertising of/on the website.

The new feature is activated after agreeing to the updated Google Analytics Data Sharing Settings, and it starts collecting data immediately.

However, it will take a couple of weeks for the data to appear in Google Analytics, but we already have a preview of the features provided:
